Best route for beginners?

Marangu (5-7 days) offers hut accommodation and gradual slope. Machame (7 days) is also excellent for fit beginners with better scenery.

How fit do I need to be?

Good cardiovascular fitness helps. Regular hiking, jogging, or stair climbing 3-4 months prior is recommended. No technical climbing required.

What gear do I need?

Layered clothing, waterproof jacket, insulated boots, sleeping bag (-10°C), headlamp, poles, daypack. Detailed list provided.

How to prevent altitude sickness?

Walk slowly ("pole pole"), stay hydrated, choose longer routes (Lemosho 8d or Northern Circuit 9d), consider Diamox after consulting your doctor.
